Fixing my life in 30 days: Day 8
Young Sheldon
Young Sheldon
If you haven’t watched Big Bang Theory, F.R.I.E.N.D.S., or The Office, I suggest you start Young Sheldon. My friends have watched these shows and they have different favorites among the four comedy shows I have mentioned.
As someone who watched an English comedy show for the first time, I loved every bit of it. There is so much more than good comedy that made me invested in YS.
If I have to pick one thing, I’d say the family and sibling dynamics.
I am a single child. I never had any siblings, but I always wished for one. Sometimes, I get envious or my heart melts to see people share stories about their siblings. I had very little envy in my life and there were only a few moments where I thought, “I wish I had this in my life.”
Watching Young Sheldon takes me to the fantasy world I always wanted to live in. It’s a story of a family: the worrying and loving mom, lazy, sport-enthusiastic, responsible father, a savage yet kind grandmother, elder brother dumb in many ways but smart with life skills, twin sister being the rudest with words and kindest at heart, and there’s our very own mighty little man, Sheldon.
Most scenes are just out-and-out comedy, but they subtly integrate these sweet little moments that show what a family stands for. These scenes are why I watch YS.
Few of my favourites scenes:
Missy (Sheldon’s twin sister) was always teasing him and talking like she hated being around him, but when he had to move out for college, she missed him badly. You should see her excitement when he’s back
Along similar lines, there was an episode when Missy made fun of Sheldon throughout. But when their dad scolded him and he started to cry out hard, she was the first one to hug
Sheldon mentioning to his mom how the existence of God might be possible even though he doesn’t believe in God—just to restore his mother’s faith because he knows how much it means to her
Sheldon’s dad, George, lied about something to his wife, and Sheldon knew it. He asks Sheldon to keep it between them, but with our little genius not so smart at keeping secrets finds it difficult and has trouble understanding why his dad is lying to mom. He says, “I don’t like you’re lying. I have always looked up to you as a role model. I don’t think I feel the same now.” Most dads want to be their kid’s hero and right when George sees his wife after this conversation, he tells her the truth
Missy couldn’t get a chance to join the Baseball team because it was all boys, and they said they didn’t have place for girls. Missy was upset, crying, and miserable with the fact that she didn’t even get a chance to show what she was capable of. When finally her grandmother gets furious and arranges a chance, Sheldon says to Missy, “Play Good Baseball” which translates to the adult version of “Go kick some ass.”
…and there are so many more.
Damn, that took up some space!
Anyway, about today: It was a good break day. I didn’t work much + I needed this relaxation.
I went to the practice today (couldn’t in the last two days because of rain.) After freshening up, I spent an hour reading newsletters, followed by working for forty minutes on client work.
Then I had this impromptu movie plan with my friend. I watched a Telugu film titled Hi Nanna (translates to Hi Dad.) It was released today, and I watched it in the theaters. Nothing new but it was beautiful. I’d recommend it. I heard it’s dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada. So if it’s in theaters nearby, this might not be a bad weekend option.
from the film
After I returned, I spent 2 hours 45 minutes on meetings, an hour each on content and operational tasks, an hour on Young Sheldon, and now this newsletter.
Have some interesting things to work on tomorrow. I hope it turns out fun.
See ya!
