Fixing my life in 30 days: Day 27

Salaar is overrated; better father-son movie than Animal

Today was okayish. Not so good, not so bad.

  • Had a meeting with my client. We were reevaluating a few things for 2024

  • I wrote my 2023 review. Still need to finish a few points. Gathering pictures is taking a lot of time, but I promise it will be wholesome

  • Watched Salaar

  • Two hours of client work

  • Defining targets for my team

Salaar is overrated: Why I did not like the film?

*will contain spoilers*

Salaar deserved the hype after what Neel did with KGF and KGF 2, and it starred Prabhas and Prithviraj.

I felt I was up for a really good Prabhas film, but Salaar disappointed me.

Most of the film felt like watching KGF 2—the same template with different fights.

I am not an art film kinda guy. I love films as they are and enjoy all kinds of movies. I don’t find logic in how one punch can make the villain land 20 feet farther. I’ll be like “okay” and continue watching it. As long as you’re entertaining me and making me feel “wow” I am happy with anything you do.

I felt Neel overdid the action sequences in Salaar, which was a big turn-off for me. The hammer scene in KGF makes you go crazy because there is rebellion, and that is the moment Rocky says, “that’s enough.” The scene was a huge hit and I connected to it in an instance because he was suppressed for so long and I wanted Yash to break free.

There are many scenes similar to that in Salaar and I did not enjoy Deva (Prabhas) breaking free because I didn’t feel him being restricted or suppressed.

Also, I felt Prithviraj was underutilized.

KGF > KGF 2 > Salaar

The balance between story, emotion, and fights was as perfect as it could get in KGF. I felt Neel overdid emotion in KGF 2, but some really good action sequences made me rewatch some scenes on OTT—especially the end credits. But I don’t think I’d rewatch anything from Salaar.

Few things I liked about the movie:

  • I like how Neel is creating his own fictional worlds. It takes a lot of writing to define characters and build worlds

  • Prabhas is looking good after a long time. Not as good as his pre-Bahubali films but much better than his last 3-4 movies

  • The opening song’s Telugu lyrics were sooooo good

Better Father-Son movie than Animal

You can say all you want, but no movie in the last decade has come close to Surya S/o Krishnan’s story. It’s a complete package and covers life in full circle.

If you have not watched it yet, it’s one movie you shouldn’t miss.

See ya!
