Fixing my life in 30 days: Day 0

The backstory

After my trip to Mulki in October’s first week, most things went downhill.

I have kinda stability, in hindsight, but many many aspects need correction— from work-life to systems to habits to hobbies.

I understand it’s a slow and long-term game, and I can’t rush or ‘fix’ everything in 30 days. But the point of this 30-day series is to keep me accountable and put my processes on the treadmill.

At the end of every day, I will email you about my actions and progress towards my goals.

So I have a bunch of things to talk about. I’ll give some context about what I do and address them one by one.

What do I do overall?

  • I run a freelance business: I write emails and newsletters for D2C brands and content creators

  • I run a content business: two newsletters, three social media channels, and a community

  • I was a professional cricketer. I still live the same lifestyle: practice 4/7 days, play 1-3 matches per week

  • I meet my friends regularly, I am trying to build new hobbies and eliminate many bad habits.

Addressing each bullet, one by one

1. Freelance Biz:

Honestly, I am not proud of the money I am making right now. I am working on some really cool projects, but I definitely should be handling more high-ticket clients, given my skills and experience in content.

And to get high-ticket clients, I need to reach out to high-ticket leads.

It’s a simple equation: Need more clients? Pitch more people.

But not so easy to execute. I have already started to pitch a few brands and creators but it needs to get better. In the last couple of days, I have fixed my pitch deck and portfolio. Starting tomorrow, I will pitch at least 50 leads per week.

2. Content Biz:

I create content on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter—with a combined audience of 9000.

Adding to it, I run two newsletters:

  • Cognition: Biz newsletter, where I document my work

  • Vikra’s Café: The one you’re reading right now. I talk about everything apart from work here (okay, exempt this issue :p)

Cognition is now a team of three: with Priya working on thumbnails and graphics and Aditya marketing the newsletter and bringing in sponsorships.

If you think the math is not mathing, I’m the third guy.

The problem is I spend ~25 hours per week on content, and we are not making any direct money yet.

We have some premium access, goodies, access, and the content helped me close some clients for my freelance business. But we haven’t monetized content directly from selling products, affiliates, or sponsorships yet.

So we are working on getting sponsors and increasing readership at the moment. Will share more deets as things happen.

Not Priya and I irritating Aditya with our lack of discipline :p

3. Sport, Fitness, and Food:

I am nowhere near what I should be with my fitness and food habits.

I have put on weight and can see its impact on my sport. I’m finding it difficult to get the flow—and I’m just managing all my game with nothing but the mindset and experience.

+ I can’t believe there wasn’t a single day I did not eat outside food in the last 50 days. That explains my weight, monthly budget vs spending, and my activeness with work.

I am just hiding behind a hoodie now.

Mrunmayee will help me with food. I should help myself with workouts.

4. Other things:

The downside of working from home is you will be fucked up if you don’t find enough things to do outside the home.

That’s exactly what’s happening to me.

Socializing and all is nice but I should find myself habits I can just do for the sake of happiness. I need to find more things similar to listening to music, watering plants, etc.

I am working on my mental health, social equations, and possibly opportunities to do some diversely different shit than what I do regularly.

That’s all.

I have (vaguely) told you a few problems I need to solve for myself. I will get into details and share what I do about it every day—before I sleep.

PS: This doesn’t mean I don’t write the usual issues. I will still keep writing whenever interesting stories and perspectives hit me.

See ya tomorrow! Good night!

Dropped Mom at her office this morning because Dad was on election duty. Loved the sunlight this morning—hence the picture.

It’s 11:52 pm now. I just finished talking to Riten for 95 minutes about how my work in freelancing and content is going. He had his insights like always, and I could never get enough of conversations with him. Riten, if you’re reading this, LOVE YOU BROTHER!
